This blog post will be my personal development or action plan for the upcoming 4-5 weeks. At least this tells more about my work, and the small "projects" that I'm currently involved in. Keeping me on track...
The past two weeks were busy at work, among other things I informed our students about international mobility possibilities, participated in some curriculum development meetings, planned the implementation and content of a new online course (which is still in a creative process). This will be my second course completely online, so I feel pretty anxious (also excited) about starting it. We use moodle as VLE and the live sessions are in ACP (adobe connect pro)
Encouraged by EVOmultilit group I am going to try using delicious for bookmarking and sharing interesting web resources, and trying out wiki and maybe jing for making brief video tutorials. I suppose my students can be considered nerds as they are studying Business IT, and they can be given quite a lot of responsibility, too, being adults.
We will introduce ning community, too, later in March as a common meeting place for our colleagues and their students in Belgium and the Netherlands who will come and visit us in the end of March for joint workshops. Their stay will be only 3 days so we need to get to know one another in advance in order to get things sorted out and organised in an effective and efficient manner.
Next week my first moodle/connect pro workshop for colleagues will take place, and the idea is that we will both deal with issues that my colleagues need help with but also exchange good practices and tips. So I was thinking of some quick instructions to be shared in moodle for basic functions that we cover in our 4 workhops this spring, or at some point making video tutorials with jing. We'll see how it proceeds. The most important challenge is to get everybody involved in collaboration to achieve creative flow together :)
The second project I'm involved in has two hands-on training afternoons on social media, and together with colleagues we will be introducing the use of ning community for networking and teaching, delicious bookmarks, wiki and various google tools. A common ning forum has been set up for our university, but it has not been widely used yet, so one purpose of this training is to inform people about its existence and the possibilities it offers. Some active colleagues organised e-cafe sessions on Friday afternoons in connect pro to share ideas and experiences of elearning, social media etc. Unfortunately its success was mediocre due to overlapping commitments, but as such a good experiment, nevertheless.
Finally, in March there will be a workshop week in Germany organised by a partner university for a group of German teachers (DaF). I have volunteered to give a session on online materials and interaction based on my own and some colleagues' experiences (though not on teaching German). The objective here as well is more to share experiences than give 'expert' lectures.
Just had a look at the objectives of week 4 and I realised that I seem to have missed one week completely. It's of some consolation that there's going to be another chance next year, hopefully.
So even if I haven't been able to be very active in multilit group, I have gained a multitude of information and excellent examples from all the moderators and enthusiastic participants that will be beneficial in my work. Today's speedgeeking session on SL by Marian Heddesheimer, made me dig my sl avatar from the hidden archives, and I hope to learn more soon in edufire.
